Welcome to Schwaz in Tyrol. The era in which Schwaz was considered a European hotspot due to its trade in special ores was a long time ago, but the town still impresses today with its lovingly preserved town center, historical cultural treasures and cosmopolitan flair. Surrounded by proud mountain ranges, it offers the ideal starting point for this “sprint mountain bike tour” through the Karwendel mountains.

The ‘silver city’ of Schwaz (545 m) is left in the direction of Jenbach on a leisurely cycle, before tackling the ascent to the shores of Lake Achensee (930 m). From Pertisau, a challenging climb then leads up to the Plumsjoch (1.650 m), from where you can tackle the brilliant descent down to the alpine village of Eng (1.200 m) with the “Großer Ahornboden” nature reserve.

This king’s stage of the tour first makes its way from the “Großer” to the “Kleiner Ahornboden” and then on to the majestically enthroned Karwendelhaus (1.770 m). The route then leads in “downhill mode”, first to Scharnitz and then leisurely on to the stage destination of Leutasch.

Visits to the Olympic regions of Seefeld and Innsbruck form the heart of this stage. In between, before and after, a fine mix of uphill and downhill sections on well-surfaced forest paths provides a pleasant balance to the two previous very sporty stages through the Karwendel massif.
