Roundtrip „Alpine Park Karwendel“
on the Bike-Trail-Tirol
... in the versions „champion“ and „sporty“
Champion or the sporty biker – everyone will have fun on these three various tours. However, the actual “star” of these three tours, demanding different biking-skills, is the Karwendel itself: the Alpine Park is not for nothing the oldest and one of the largest nature reserves in Tyrol.
No other region of the Northern Limestone Alps has preserved its natural wildness and native variety. There are countless regional scenic attractions: the picturesque Achensee is situated between impressive mountains – similar to a fjord – shimmering in a Carribean turquoise.
Imposing mountain ranges surround alpine pastures, home to many beautiful alpine flowers. Ancient giant trees wait for astonished bikers in the Eng.
Wild rivers still find their natural way through the Karwendel. All these varieties and many more highlights contribute to this extraordinary tour being a – not only sporty – superlative experience.
Features
Option of 3 different levels of challenge
Tour extensions to nearby alps are possible at each stage (version „sporty“)
Program version „champ“
(four different stages, altogether approximately 300 kilometres and 7.000 metres in altitude)
Day 1: Individual arrival at Kufstein
Day 2: Kufstein – Achensee (approx. 70 km/ approx. 1800 metres in altitude)
From the so-called “perl of the Tyrol” to the “sea of the Tyroleans”.
In between, the Ackern alpine pasture (1400 m) has to be reached and after a rapid ride downhill you will get to the Guffert chalet (1465 m).
Day 3: (approx. 70 km/ approx. 1700 metres in altitude)
Across the “jewel of the Alps”.
After the steep ride up to the Plumsjoch (1650 m), which will demand all of your biking skills and techniques, a broad gravel path will lead you to the alpine village Eng (1200 m). From that point the tour will bring you on to the majestic “Karwendelhaus“ (1770 m). The ride to Scharnitz alongside the unique Karwendelbach is a real pleasure.
Day 4: (approx. 75 km/ approx. 1400 metres in altitude)
From the region of the Karwendel via the alpine metropolis Innsbruck to the silver town.
Stays in the Olympia-regions Seefeld and Innsbruck are the centre of this stage of the tour.
In between, before and afterwards, a well balanced mix of passages up- and downhill following well tarred forest trails offers a good balance to yesterday’s “tour d’extrème” through the
Karwendel-massif.
Day 5: (approx. 85 km/ approx. 1900 metres in altitude)
Across the Rofan and the Brandenberg Alps back to the fortress town.
The climbs to the lakeside of the Achensee (930 m) and to the „Kögelalm“ (1412 m) mark the main climbs of this final stage of the tour, before reaching again the starting point and at the same time the destination of the tour: the “perl of the Tyrol”.
Program version „Sporty“
(five different stages, altogether approx. 240 kilometres and 2500-600 metres in altitude)
Day 1: Individual arrival at Innsbruck
Day 2: Innsbruck – Schwaz (approx. 35-50 km/ approx. 300-1400 metres in altitude)
From the alpine pasture paradise of the Innsbruck Northchain along the Inn-bikeway to the silvertown.
Day 3: (appr. 35-40 km/ approx. 300-1400 metres in altitude)
To start off slowly you will leave the miner’s city Schwaz (545 m) in direction of Jenbach. Well prepared you can now set about the ascent up to the lakeside of the Achensee (930 m). From there it is possible to extend the tour to the Kögelalm (1412 m) and then to get back to the Achensee after a long downhill in direction of Steinberg am Rofan.
Day 4: Achensee – Risstal/Eng or „crossing the Karwendel light“
(approx. 55-65 km/ approx. 400-1400 metres in altitude)
To avoid the very steep climb up to the Plumsjoch (1650 m) there are flat and moderately ascending forest paths as well as rarely frequented streets alongside the Sylvenstein-lake and the Risstal leading to the alpine village Eng (1200 m), located in the nature preserve “Großer Ahornboden”. In case there is still the need of achieving more metres in altitude, the ascent up to the Plumsjoch can be attempted from the other side (less exhausting ascent).
Day 2: (approx. 55 km/ approx. 900 metres in altitude)
From the big to the small “Ahornboden” and then on to the majestic Karwendelhaus (1770 m).
When afterwards biking racily downhill to Scharnitz, it is worth paying attention to the unique play of colours of the Karwendelbach.
Day 6: Scharnitz – Innsbruck (approx.. 50-70 km/ approx. 30-1500 metres in altitude)
From the Karwendel to the olymic regions Seefeld and Innsbruck.
